Juliana de Jesus Marcal

Juliana de Jesus Marcal and her husband Marcos grow vegetables on a plot of land in the rural village of Balibar. They sell these, and additional stock bought from neighbours, from a stall in the Halilaran market in Dili one or two times a week. Despite competition from other vegetable sellers, they can earn between $5 and (on a good day) $20. Their main problem is the lack of a tin roof to shelter their produce in the market. Juliana has requested a loan to buy roofing material, and also vegetable seeds.

Juliana is 25 and has three children aged between 2-5. She and her family live in a one room house. She hopes she can increase their income from the vegetable business, improve their living conditions, and be able to send the children to school in the future.
